The Social Investment Forum, the US membership association for professionals, firms, institutions and organizations engaged in socially responsible and sustainable investing, seeks a membership and administrative coordinator.

The Social Investment Forum (SIF) and its 300 plus members advance investment practices that consider environmental, social and corporate governance criteria to generate long-term competitive financial returns and positive societal impact. Our vision is a world in which investment capital helps build a sustainable and equitable economy.

SIF's members include investment management and advisory firms, mutual fund companies, research firms, financial planners and advisors, broker-dealers, banks, credit unions, community development organizations, non-profit associations, and pension funds, foundations and other asset owners. SIF members practice SRI through methods such as portfolio selection analysis, shareholder advocacy and community investing.

SIF has a staff of 6, works with several key consultants, has an active and engaged board of directors, and a budget of $1,000,000. We are in a stage of expansion and growth. Please see our website.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and a commitment to teamwork and member service. The position will be on an 80 percent schedule (equivalent to 4 days a week) and is therefore especially suitable for candidates who seek a slightly reduced work week but with benefits such as paid vacation, a retirement plan and employer-subsidized health insurance.

As a member of the SIF staff, you will be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial, collegial organization that has a rising profile in educating investors, policymakers, the media and the general public about sustainable and socially responsible investing.

Responsibilities:

Membership Management:

  • Create and manage the annual renewal schedule through member mailings, faxes, e-mails, and special appeals.
  • In coordination with SIF management and membership recruitment consultant, send membership and event invitations to, and answer questions from, prospective members.
  • Manage listing updates for the online and print versions of SIF Membership Directory.
  • Update and maintain member records in Avectra membership database and QuickBooks accounting software.
  • On a monthly basis, report to SIF management and on the progress of renewals, new members and other membership-related activities.
  • Serve as the liaison to the Membership Committee of the SIF board.
  • Prepare memos approximately four times a year for the SIF board on the status of membership renewal and recruitment initiatives against annual goals.

Membership Services:

  • Handle all routine membership communications, including calls, e-mails, faxes and mailings (including welcome packets).
  • Generate invoices for new members as requested or needed.
  • Explain enrollment procedures and benefit programs and answer benefits questions throughout the year.
  • Track and send all special orders for publications throughout the year.
  • Coordinate SIF mailings as needed, including annual packets for the board nominations process and election.
  • Maintain and update listings on SIF members-only electronic discussion lists.
  • Work with SIF management on initiatives to enhance membership benefits.
  • Conduct one-on-one telephone outreach to SIF members to ascertain satisfaction levels and suggestions regarding SIF membership.
  • Assist with updates to SIF's printed and online membership materials.
  • Manage production of SIF membership directory, including acquiring listing information, developing content pages, and intensive proofing of the publication before being sent to a printer.
  • Plan several membership receptions annually in coordination with SIF member firms around the country.

Financial Bookkeeping:

  • Working with bookkeeper, enter invoices, check requests, bills and credit card receipts into QuickBooks, as needed.
  • Mail deposits to the bank.

Office Administration and Related Duties:

  • Serve as SIF's receptionist and office greeter for any guests.
  • Track inventory of supplies and order office supplies as needed; maintain overall office order.
  • Compile agendas for regular SIF staff meetings.
  • Assist with support and logistics for conferences produced or co-produced by SIF.
  • Assist with support and logistics for board meetings and board mailings as well as other mailings.
  • Fulfill and track publication orders.
  • Provide logistics and administrative support for other SIF staff.
  • Handle other administrative tasks that may arise.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following traits and qualifications:

  • A 4 year college or associate's degree .
  • Work experience with a membership association (preferred, but not required)
  • Experience with Avectra or other membership management software (preferred, but not required)
  • Introductory knowledge of Quickbooks or other accounting software
  • Well organized with attention to detail
  • Interest in socially responsible investing and corporate social responsibility
  • Collegial attitude; enjoys working as part of team, but also willing and happy to work independently
  • Desire to be part of an organization moving to a new stage of development

Compensation:

  • Salary of $28,000 to $30,000, depending on experience
  • 12 days of paid vacation, plus 2 personal days
