ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability USA, Inc., a membership association of local governments focused on climate protection and sustainability, seeks a dynamic and talented Climate Protection Program Intern to be based in our Boston, MA, office.
The mission of ICLEI is to build, serve, and drive a movement of local governments to advance deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and achieve tangible improvements in local sustainability. Since its inception in 1990, ICLEI has grown to include over 1,000 local government members around the world, more than 550 of which are in the United States. ICLEI staff work closely with these local governments, providing technical expertise, training, software and other tools and critical networking opportunities to help them achieve their climate protection and sustainability goals.
Position Overview:
This summer ICLEI is kicking off a major initiative to quantify the climate, energy and sustainability achievements of its local government members. The Climate Protection Program Intern will be integral to this project as part of a team that will lead the research, data collection and analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Research and collect local governments' climate, energy and sustainability plans with a focus on internet research.
- Log specific plan components and metrics in a database.
- Analyze data trends and compile key findings for a final report.
- Assist in the research and writing of case studies.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of climate, energy and sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates should exhibit the following:
- Strong team player with a desire to take initiative;
- Excellent interpersonal, phone and written communication skills;
- Analytical skills, particularly the ability to organize complex information into a highly accessible format;
- Comfort and experience working with Microsoft Excel's more advanced features or other programs used for data and information analysis (not required);
- An interest in and/or knowledge of local governments, climate, energy and/or sustainability or other related fields preferred.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship to be used for experience or college credit only.
