George Soros, Cathy Zoi Join New Silver Lake Clean Energy Fund

A private equity firm announced it will launch a new clean energy fund in collaboration with billionaire George Soros and Cathy Zoi, who recently resigned as the Obama administration’s assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Zoi will join the Silver Lake Kraftwerk Fund in April and Soros Fund Management LLC will act as a strategic partner.

Operating out of offices in Silicon Valley and China, the fund aims to invest in companies that leverage technology and business model innovation to improve energy efficiency, reduce waste and emissions, harness renewable energy, and more efficiently use natural resources, among other applications.

The fund will be led by Adam Grosser, who served for a decade as a General Partner at Foundation Capital.

“We are excited to launch Silver Lake’s fourth investment strategy, this one focused on the energy and resource sectors, where we will target growth stage companies with proven technologies and business models,” said Greg Mondre, a Silver Lake Managing Director and member of the investment committee for the new business.

Silver Lake has over 90 investment professionals located in New York, Menlo Park, San Francisco, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo and manages over $14 billion.
