Silfab To Establish Solar Manufacturing in Ontario

Solar manufacturer Silfab is planning a new module production site in Ontario, Canada.

The facility has a planned capacity of 120 megawatts (MW) to be reached in two stages–the first 60 MW will be completed by 2Q11, and the remaining 60 MW will be finalized by the end of 2011.

The new plant will manufacture high-efficiency photovoltaic modules
built with monocrystalline and polycrystalline silicon cells with a
power up to 300 watts, suited for both rooftop and ground-mounted
applications.

The company is currently scouting the new plant’s location and is completing the administrative procedures to register the new Ontario subsidiary.

The new organization will be controlled by Silfab International BV (Netherlands), the international holding in charge of all international operations of Silfab SpA.

Although the facility will primarily target the Ontario market, the new ‘made in Ontario’ Silfab modules will also be distributed across the U.S., thanks to the joint-venture formed by Silfab earlier this year with REgeneration Finance LLC, a developer of solar energy projects based in New York.
