The U.S. Senate on Friday confirmed Cathy Zoi, CEO of Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection, to be the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
Zoi was Chief of Staff in the Clinton White House Office on Environmental Policy, and in her new position she will oversee a dramatically increased budget that aims to help businesses develop and employ technologies for efficient and clean energy use.
Joseph Romm who led the EERE under Clinton wrote on his Climate Progress blog that the appointment is "terrific" news and that Zoi is "uniquely qualifie to get clean energy into the marketplace" having pioneered the Energy Star Program while working for the EPA in the early 1990s.
