LDK Solar Prepares to Commission Polysilicon Plant

LDK Solar Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LDK), a manufacturer of multicrystalline solar wafers, announced today that it has reached mechanical completion of the first 5,000 metric ton (MT) train in its polysilicon plant in Xinyu, China.

The plant is planned for annual capacity of 15,000 MT.

The company said pre-commissioning and commissioning of the Utilities, Infrastructure and Offsite (U&I&O) facilities is nearing completion in preparation for initial production.

"We remain on target to ramp to full 5,000 MT capacity over the next two quarters," commented Nick Sarno, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing at LDK Solar.

Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group is building the facility for LDK Solar.

LDK Solar sells multicrystalline wafers globally to manufacturers of photovoltaic products, including solar cells and solar modules. In addition, LDK Solar provides wafer processing services to monocrystalline and multicrystalline solar cell and module manufacturers. LDK Solar’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province in the People’s Republic of China. LDK Solar’s office in the United States is located in Sunnyvale, California.

In April, LDK Solar and Germany solar cell company Q-Cells (QCE.DE) formed a joint venture focusing on PV systems and market development in Europe and China.

In May, Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced the formation of a dedicated business line within its Power Group to focus on global renewable energy needs specifically for clients in the solar, wind and biomass sectors.
