'Gold Rush' Opportunity in New Auto Regs

The new U.S. fuel economy standards unveiled by President Obama on Tuesday create a "gold rush" opportunity for companies supplying hybrid and fuel efficiency technologies, according to a Reuters analysis.

Some companies expected to benefit from the new regulations include BorgWarner Inc (NYSE: BWA), Honeywell International Inc (NYSE: HON) and Johnson Controls Inc (NYSE: JCI) and battery makers such as start-up A123 Systems, Continental AG (CON.DE) and LG Chem Ltd (LGCLF.PK).

"There are a lot of suppliers out there with credentials that are lining up to get into this gold rush," said Larry Rinek, an expert in fuel efficiency at consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. "This is going to be a drama to watch."
