Suniva, Solon AG Sign $500M Supply Deal

Suniva Inc., a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar cells, has signed a long-term agreement with Solon AG (SOO1.DE), Europe’s largest solar photovoltaic module manufacturer. The contract extends through 2012, during which time Suniva will deliver more than $500 million worth of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells to Solon.

The customer news closely follows Suniva’s significant wafer supply
agreement
with REC, the world’s largest producer of polysilicon and
wafers for solar applications. Suniva will produce and ship its solar
cells to Solon from the company’s new manufacturing facility in metro
Atlanta
. Suniva’s plant has a preliminary capacity of 32 megawatts (MW)
on the first line, with additional lines planned to add more than 130
MW of additional capacity over the next two years.

"As one of the highest quality solar module manufacturers in the world, Solon is and will continue to be a strong industry partner for Suniva," said John Baumstark, CEO of Suniva. "This agreement marks another milestone in our growth strategy as we solidify Suniva’s powerful position in the solar supply chain."
