2008 Green Cars List Released

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) released its environmental rankings today for all 2008 model year cars and passenger trucks.

For the fifth consecutive year, Honda’s natural gas-powered Civic GX earned the "greenest" vehicle title, followed by the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid. The new Smart Fortwo Convertible and the Toyota Yaris complete the top five environmentally friendly vehicles.

The 2008 Ford Focus made the top ten this year, significant in that no domestically made vehicles were in the top ten for 2007.

The ACEEE’s Best of 2008 lists at greencars.org ists the greenest models in each vehicle class. Included are the year’s top-rated subcompact, compact, midsize, and large cars, as well as minivans, vans, pickups, and sport utility vehicles.

The site also contains the Meanest Vehicles for the Environment, a list of the 12 cars and trucks with this year’s worst Green Scores. The Volkswagen Touareg had the lowest green score.

Other "mean" vehicles included the Hummer H2, GMC Yukon and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
