USPS Offers Free E-Waste Recycling

Americans in select cities can now recycle inkjet cartridges and small electronics, like PDAs, Blackberries, MP3 players and digital cameras, for free at the post office.

The U.S. Postal Service has launched a pilot program with Clover Technologies Group, which will pay the shipping on these items and recycle them for the market.

Clover Technologies, which recycles, remanufactures and remarkets inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges and small electronics, beat out 19 other companies for the contract.

If the company receives an electronic item or cartridge that cannot be refurbished and resold, its component parts will be reused to refurbish other items or  broken down further for material recycling.

The pilot is set for 10 areas across the country, including Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and San Diego, but could become a national program this fall, if  successful.
