Satcon Signs Inverter Deals with SCE, Q-Cells

Satcon Technology Corporation (NASDAQ CM: SATC) announced that it has been selected by Southern California Edison (SCE)(NYSE: EIX) to supply inverters for at least 75% of its Solar Photovoltaic Program (SPVP) Project.

As part of the SPVP program, Southern California Edison plans to install, own and operate up to 250 megawatts (MW) of solar generating capacity over the next five years, 75 MW of which are in immediate development. These installations will be constructed mainly on large commercial rooftops and some on open parcels of land, with most sites ranging from 1 to 3 MW of generation capacity in size.

Another 250 megawatts of large rooftop solar PV will be installed and operated by independent power producers with the power output being provided to SCE’s customers.

SCE has selected Satcon’s(TM) PowerGate(R) Plus 500 kilowatt solution solar PV inverter.

Other companies involved with the solar program include SunPower (Nasdaq: SPWRA), which will supply solar panels, and SunLink, which will provide rooftop solar mounts.

Q-Cells Deal

Satcon also announced an agreement to supply solar inverters to Germany’s Q-Cells (QCE.DE) for multiple large-scale power plants in Ontario.

Q-Cells will deploy twenty of Satcon’s 1-MW Prism inverters, which are delivered in an all-climate outdoor enclosure and designed to allow rapid connectivity between PV arrays and the grid.

These projects are contracted under the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program developed and overseen by the Ontario Power Authority. They are scheduled to be operational in 3Q10.
