Ontario, Samsung to Sign Major Agreement

Ontairo Premier Dalton McGuinty is expected to sign an agreement with South Korea’s Samsung (005930.KS) today to build up to 2,500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy projects in the province.

In addition, Samsung would build four manufacturing plants in Ontario for wind power and solar equipment.

The agreement is expected to create 15,000 jobs, but opponents say Samsung should not be getting a sweetheart deal. Samsung reportedly will receive a slightly higer rate for the electricity it produces than other generators operating under Ontario’s feed-in tariff for renewables.
