Lights Out for Earth Hour on Saturday Evening

Earth Hour takes place Saturday evening, and cities and towns around the world will turn off their lights at 8:30 p.m. to raise awareness of climate change.

The event was first organized in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, and this year more than 115 countries, thousands of cities and hundreds of tourists attractions plan to flip the switch.

The event is organized by the World Wildlife Fund, and some significant participants include: the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York, the Sears/Willis Tower in Chicago, the Space Needle in Seattle, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and both the National Cathedral and the Smithsonian Castle in Washington, D.C.
