Swedish Consumers Rank Volvo, IKEA Tops in Sustainability

SustainableBusiness.com News

A consumer poll found that Volvo and IKEA are considered top brands for sustainability in Sweden--a country known for its progressive stance on sustainability issues.

The study included 3183 Swedish consumers who responded to questions about how they perceive and assess the work on environmental and social responsibility among 151 brands in 12 industries.

The survey found that Swedish companies have a perceptual advantage compared to foreign brands on sustainability issues. Swedish consumers generally perceive domestic brands to be good at sustainability, regardless of industry--even in the industries in which consumer attitudes are generally negative.

The survey also showed that Swedish consumers believe corporate sustainability performance has a significant impact on their buying decisions today, and they think they will be affected even more in three years.

Swedish consumers rated retailers, food producers and carmakers as the best sectors overall.

The top ten rated companies are:

  1. Coop
  2. ICA
  3. Volvo
  4. Arla
  5. Ikea
  6. Lantmännen
  7. Saab
  8. Skånemejerier
  9. Systembolaget
  10. Bilprovningen

The Sustainable Brands survey was conducted by IDG Research, Relation Capital Partners AB and Novus Group International.
