LA to Establish Clean Tech Corridor

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced plans to create a clean tech corridor in the city to attract companies and create green jobs in the city.
During the annual state of the city address this week, he said the corridor will revitalize five miles of old industrial area
in Downtown Los Angeles by bringing together researchers, designers and
manufacturers dedicated to developing clean technology products and climate change solutions.
"This is a unique moment of opportunity," Villaraigosa said. "It’s an opportunity to stand at the forefront of the clean-tech revolution--to transform our old industrial core into ground zero for green jobs and sustainability."
The anchor project will be the Clean Tech Manufacturing Center, a 20-acre site that will house clean tech companies and manufactures. The corridor will alos host the Clean Innovations Research Center, which will house scientists working on energy and climate change research. Villaraigosa said the center will partner with leading academic institutions throughout the Los Angeles region.
The corridor also will include the Cornfields Arroyo Seco neighborhood, which aims to be the first LEED-pilot community by any big city in the nation.

Villaraigosa said Los Angeles will eliminate the use of electricity made from coal by 2020, replacing it with power from cleaner renewable energy sources.
