Description
CitySprouts is a nonprofit school garden organization that partners with public schools to build schools' capacity to integrate school gardens with existing curricula and school culture. CitySprouts operates as a district-wide program in Cambridge Public Schools (CPS), including a summer internship for middle school youth; and in schools in the Boston area as a member of the Massachusetts FoodCorps Initiative.
Position Overview:
The Cambridge Program Director is a year-round position directing the organization's Cambridge program.
Responsibilities:
School-year program:
- Supervise garden coordinator staff in implementing Teacher Support Plans, including maintenance of the school gardens as outdoor classrooms
- Liaison to CPS teachers in developing garden-based lesson extensions
- Overseeing district-wide data collection and evaluation of teachers' garden use
Summer program:
- Oversee implementation of summer curriculum, including fieldtrips and community partnerships
- Supervise program staff: garden coordinators and summer fellows
- Oversee recruitment, selection and matriculation of youth interns
Community partnerships:
- Collaborate with community organizations and municipal departments on projects that further program goals
Facilitate the on-going development of CPS school gardens as outdoor classrooms; oversee gardens' health and maintenance
Be an advocate for CitySprouts' programs and school garden model
Qualifications
- Background in public education setting, preferably classroom experience in public schools
- Knowledge of the following fields: urban agriculture, food education
- Experience with middle school youth
- Strong organization skills; strong writing and verbal communication skills; comfort in public speaking
- Proven skill and experience in supervising and evaluating staff
- Access to car
