Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is a nonprofit organization working to advance sustainable building in the New York City area.

Position Overview: 

Urban Green Council is currently seeking an energentic and enthusiastic individual with a background in architecture or engineering to be an integral member of the Urban Green Council team.  

The Programs Assistant will be a crucial component in the delivery of Urban Green Council educational programs, reporting directly to the Director of Programs and Policy.  Primary responsibilities include coordinating logistics for various educational programs and events, including but not limited to:  High Performance Green Building Salons, First Wednesday Technical Roundtables, LEED Technical Review Workshops, LEED Study Groups, Green Building Tours, and other educational series. 

The Programs Assistant will also maintain the Chapter's website event calendar and manage event volunteer outreach and coordination.  Position requires some early morning and evening hours to attend events.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate educational programs and Chapter events 
  • Provide site management during events
  • Manage Event Volunteer outreach
  • Manage continuing education credit processing
  • Maintain Urban Green Council website calendar
  • Manage LEED Technical Review Workshops
  • Supervise Program Intern
  • Provide assistance with email and phone inquiries
  • Provide general support as needed to the office

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required; educational background or work experience in architecture or engineering highly preferred
  • Knowledge of building design and construction
  • General understanding of high performance green building design
  • LEED Accredited Professional preferred
  • Project or event management experience preferred
  • Management (CRM) software, particularly with Convio platform highly desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams
  • Energetic, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize
  • Passion for and commitement to Urban Green Council's mission
  • Experience with sustainable development a plus

Compensation: Compensation commensurate with experience.
