Position Overview: 

We have a current opening for a Field Technician (Mechanical or Electrical) in our Seattle office. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, build, test, and operate multi-channel mechanical loads measurement system for wind turbines in conjunction with test engineers.
  • Procure and/or fabricate mechanical test fixtures.
  • Assemble tests and calibrate measurement and data acquisition system including communications between data acquisition system and a PC.
  • Perform off-site installation and repairs of test equipment and components when necessary.
  • Assemble, test, and calibrate a multi-channel measurement and data acquisition system including fabricating necessary wiring harnesses, junction boxes, fixtures, etc.
  • Fully assemble and test systems in our offices prior to deployment in the field, according to procedures and test plan. Field deployment will include installation, on a utility-scale wind turbine, of proximity, acceleration, speed, and other sensors as well as the integration of the sensor signals into the measurements and data acquisition system.
  • Calibrate the system in situ and ensure reliable autonomous operation. 
  • Monitor the measurement and data acquisition system remotely and respond to faults and failures, either remotely or in the field, as required.
  • Perform periodic maintenance visits to the test site.
  • Dismantle and package the measurement and data acquisition system after measurements are complete. 
  • Keep immediate supervisor up to date on all on-going projects with regard to project status, completion time projections, and any problems that may arise during the course of the project.
  • Perform other related duties as required. 

Requirements: 

  • Familiarity with using various load and position measurement sensors such as proximity sensors, strain gages, accelerometers, encoders, etc. is required.
  • Experience with signal telemetry and mechanical loads data reduction and analysis is also beneficial but not required.
  • Previous instrumentation experience is required.
  • Familiarity with Campbell Scientific, Inc. data acquisition systems is a plus. 
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces on exposed towers up to 100 meters tall, lift 60 lbs., and have a valid driver's license.
  • Significant travel will be required. 
  • Associate's degree in electrical, mechanical, or other technical discipline preferred. Scientific backgrounds with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Three or more years of work experience required.
