Konarka Technologies is a renewable energy spin off from University Massachusetts, Lowell that is working towards commercializing a flexible, lightweight, printable, inexpensive solar technology that is much more versatile in application than traditional silicon-based solar cells.
Anywhere there is light, power plastic makes it possible for devices, systems and structures to have their own low-cost embedded sources of renewable power. By combining energy generation and power consumption within the same device, Konarka enables manufacturers to create a World Without Wires" with truly wireless applications.
Position Summary:
We are building 3rd generation thin film photovoltaics using commercial roll to roll, low cost, high volume processes. During our scale-up, you will interface with key technical partners/customers to drive introduction of first products, initially in the portable power market. You will pull together customer product requirements and develop specifications that can be acted on by the technical team.
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, yet able to see the big picture. You must be comfortable in a hands-on, team environment and thrive in the fast paced, dynamic atmosphere of a new technology company.
This position will report to the Director of Strategic Business Development.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and deliver applications - interface with early customers to coordinate the design, build, and delivery of products and systems. Must have a hands-on approach in this area and be able to integrate electronic and mechanical systems.
* Coordinate design and fabrication of internal marketing demos and prototypes.
* Serve as technical liaison between marketing/business development/sales and engineering -- interpret marketing and product requirements and distill into technical specifications that can be executed on by engineering team.
* Generate and document design rules based on manufacturability requirements.
* Develop customer/application specific product test plans to evaluate product performance.
* Specify and coordinate execution of tests to build knowledge of system performance in specific applications - provide documentation of these results (apps notes) for both internal and external use.
Assist with other special projects as they arise (e.g., web site redevelopment, tradeshows, PR opportunities, speaker engagements, etc). Maintain partnerships, coordinate meetings and facilitate conversations around renewable energy. Assist in the development of marketing materials, collateral, project case studies and corporate presentation materials. Provide research support.
Qualifications:
* Demonstrated working knowledge of mechanical/electrical product design for electronics (i.e. palm pilot, pda's, battery chargers, etc.), as well as experience with agency approvals, product testing, documentation control, and manufacturability.
* CAD literate, preferably Solidworks. Proficiency in all MS Office applications required.
* Hands-on, ability to turn ideas into physical reality both in-house and through suppliers.
* BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, advanced degree preferred. Knowledge of basic chemistry and physics required.
* Team player with ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively.
* Highly organized, exceptional project and time management skills
* Experience interfacing with customers.
* 5-10 years of experience with product development with some experience in a fast paced, high tech company. It would be preferable if this experience was in the consumer electronics/battery or charger space. Experience with photovoltaics highly preferred.
* Experience with project planning and budgeting, and demonstrated ability to hit commitments and delivery targets.
* Ability to think strategically, and solve problems creatively with high level of energy and initiative.
