SmartWood (SW) is a program of the Rainforest Alliance created in 1989; it is the oldest global forestry certification program and has been accredited by the internationally recognized Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). SmartWood's mission is to promote the implementation of sustainable forestry worldwide.

Summary of Position:

This position requires a seasoned, proactive manager who will oversee the staff and the day-to-day operation of the SmartWood program including sales, marketing, finance, audit, certification services, quality and systems. The Managing Director, in coordination with the Chief of Forestry, will create strategic marketing and sales plans and oversee the implementation of strategies via regional offices. This position will also play a key role in conceptualizing and developing new product lines and partnerships and identify other earned income opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:In coordination with the Chief of Forestry, develop and implement SW's strategy: including product lines, geography, clients, staffing, and potential partnerships.

Sales and Marketing

* Establish global and regional sales targets in coordination with Regional Managers;
* Assist in developing and implementing sales strategies for major global clients;
* Together with Regional Managers, research and identify target clients and categories in all regions;
* Support and coach the Regional Managers as needed in their sales efforts (i.e. provide support in proposal development and budgeting);
* Assist the Chief of Forestry in managing relationships with partner organizations;
* Recruit new certification clients; and
* Oversee the recruitment of sales reps as needed.

Finance and Operations

* Responsible for delivering or exceeding all financial targets;
* Collaborate with Finance and Operations to identify the legal, financial, and operational issues related to new initiatives and to create operational plans to ensure maximum success;
* Review monthly income statements, sales and accounts receivable reports;
* Manage annual budgeting and mid-year re-forecasting for the SmartWood program;
* Liaise with Finance and Operations to address office administration, information technology, legal and human resources needs and maximize productivity; and
* Provide leadership in ensuring that SmartWood staff are knowledgeable of, and compliant with, RA operating procedures.

Certification ServicesOversee SmartWood Certification Administration team; and, Provide guidance to ensure quality of our certification process through effective policies and procedures, monitoring and training tools, technical and administrative systems.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree required; MBA a plus;
* Minimum 5 to 7 years experience in a business managerial level, results-driven marketing position with demonstrated success in achieving financial goals;
* Demonstrated experience running a business or business unit;
* Demonstrated experience in sales and marketing;
* Experience in forestry, certification, and/or forest products sector a plus;
*Must have strong planning, analytical, and project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines;
* A "roll-up-your-sleeves" team focused manager with minimum three years experience in managing people in multi-locations, processes and operations;
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Spanish fluency a plus;
* Ability to analyze financial reports and develop budgets and cash flow projections;
* Demonstrated experience in organizational strategic planning;
* Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office); and
* Willingness to travel a minimum of 20% of the time.
