Description
Center for Water and the Environment, Natural Resources Research Institut (NRRI) at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks a Postdoctoral Associate.
Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will work in cooperation with faculty and graduate students on research projects related to:
- The ecological implications of European earthworm invasions in a range of forest ecosystem types across the Great Lakes region and
- The biodiversity, ecosystem dynamics and ecosystem function of primarily forested ecosystems in northern Minnesota and
- The role of European earthworm populations on the development and ecosystem function in a range of forest types in Poland.
- Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of research studies described above.
- Develop data collection procedures; train and supervise project personnel.
- Design, organize and manage project databases and conduct data analysis.
- Collaborate on reports and publication of research findings.
Qualifications:
- PhD in biological or ecological sciences, with extensive experience in: field sampling in northern forests, earthworm identification, experimental design and multivariate statistical analysis;
- Ability to work independently and to work as part of a team conducting multidisciplinary research; collaborating with other academic and agency scientists.
- The applicant must demonstrate the abilities to advise and supervise undergraduate and graduate students or technicians, and to work effectively with state, federal or private organizations.
- The successful applicant is expected to have a demonstrated record of scientific achievement as indicated by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals in the field of forest ecology.
Qualifications:
Desirable are: Experience with ordination and community analysis software (PC-ORD, CANOCO, etc.)
Applicant must have received his/her PhD by the start of the position.
Because funding is usually made from non-University research grants, appointments are generally made on an annual and renewable basis.
