New Hampshire Global Warming Education Project


We seek a talented organizer to coordinate and implement a program of statewide grassroots mobilization and public education on global warming between now and the New Hampshire presidential primary in January 2004. The New Hampshire Global Warming Education Project is a joint project of Clean Air-Cool Planet, The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and NH PIRG in support of the goals of the Carbon Coalition (www.carboncoalition.org), a multi-group, non-partisan effort to promote actions to reduce carbon emissions. Other partners in the Carbon Coalition include the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Audubon Society of New Hampshire and Clean Water Action.


Main Job Responsibilities:

  1. Field Organizing & Coordination
    • Execute an intense grassroots public education campaign on global warming issues in New Hampshire
    • Coordinate activities with Carbon Coalition members and national environmental organizations
    • Develop and maintain activist database and distribution lists, and provide regular electronic updates
    • Track candidate schedules and statements in New Hampshire
    • Recruit and manage a team of volunteers
  2. Public Education & Outreach
    • Organize and attend community events on global warming and develop a speakers bureau
    • Coordinate a one-day conference on climate change impacts and solutions in New Hampshire
    • Ensure New Hampshire citizens have the information they need to ask candidates and politicians informed questions about global warming
    • Write and edit press releases, fact sheets and other materials
    • Develop and maintain media contacts


Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in political or environmental field organizing.
  • Excellent inter-personal and team-working skills and an ability to work with coalitions of non-profit organizations.
  • Experience managing part-time and volunteer field staff.
  • Strong planning and time management skills and an orientation toward details
  • Experience living or working in New Hampshire is strongly preferred

This is a temporary, contract position. The successful candidate will be based in Concord, New Hampshire but extensive travel within the state will be required as well as evening and weekend work.
