Description

The National Trust for Historic Preservation seeks an energetic, community-conscious individual with an educational background in business administration and economics to serve a one-year fellowship in the areas of historic preservation, community design, and sustainable development.

Working directly with business leaders and national advocates for good design, historic preservation and Smart Growth, this individual would provide critical support to a newly created program, the Corporate Good Neighbor Initiative.

This program, designed in partnership by the National Trust, Scenic America, The Townscape Institute, and The Conservation Fund, has as its purpose bringing historic preservation and community character values into the location and development decisions of major chain and franchise companies.

A full-time position, based at the National Trust headquarters in Washington, DC, the CGNI Fellow reports to the Senior Vice-President, Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Identify potential corporate partners and participate in outreach to them

* Collect best practices and case studies on successful examples of adaptive use of historic buildings and new design, as well as negative examples

* Collect and synthesize information on retail trends

* Participate in designing an RFP for an assessment of the impact of design and community-friendly stores on financial profitability

* Develop print and electronic materials that promote the Initiative

* Promote the Initiative through various existing electronic and print mediums, including partner listservs, Websites, and publications

* Participate in proposals for financial support to expand the Initiative.

***Travel is required, as is availability for some weekend conferences and/or meetings.

The Fellowship stipend is $30,000, with additional benefits.
