Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization promoting responsible energy choices that solve global warming problems and ensure clean, safe, and healthy communities throughout the Southeast. 

Position Overview: 

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is seeking a wind research associate to assist with regional wind energy activities in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina.  The ideal candidate will offer knowledge and experience from one or more of the following areas:  engineering, utility resource planning, and wind energy. However, candidates with a strong aptitude to develop knowledge in those areas will be considered.

Responsibilities: 

The wind research associate will be responsible for assisting with regional activities and helping to plan for and coordinate wind energy projects. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as technical manager on existing offshore wind energy transmission project
  • Research and compile documentation on issues affecting the integration of wind energy into the regional transmission system
  • Review technical documents and make editorial recommendations
  • Work closely with utility companies to identify needs for technical assistance on wind integration issues
  • Communicate with transmission and wind experts as needed
  • Research issues of public interest and utility interest related to offshore wind energy development in South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina
  • Assist in workshop and webinar planning as needed
  • Help prepare public materials including web site information and power point presentations as needed
  • Provide administrative assistance as needed

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or close to completion of a bachelor's degree is required. 
  • Demonstrated skills in a professional setting must include writing, verbal communications, analysis and a range of computer software.
  • Familiarity with wind energy issues helpful.
  • Experience working with government agencies, universities, utilities and businesses.
  • Ability to work within deadlines and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with changing and emerging issues and priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaborative environments.
  • A commitment to the mission and goals of the organization.

Compensation: $21,000, may be negotiable with higher skill set.

Hours per week:  40 hours per week for 6 months. 
Location:  South Carolina preferred
