Position Overview

Wood is currently recruiting for a talented Senior Renewable Energy Consultant to join our Renewables Project Development & Engineering team in our Canadian/American  offices.

The Senior Renewable Energy Consultant will lead the delivery of multidisciplinary projects through their feasibility, pre-construction, construction and/or operational phases with a specific focus on the design of solar and energy storage projects. Whilst this role will have a particular focus on solar energy technology and project design it may also include involvement in storage, wind, hybrid projects and green hydrogen.

This role will play a key part in growing our Project Development & Engineering teams who are supporting the development and financing of renewable  energy projects across the Americas. Our clients and their projects are some of the largest and most complex in the industry, looking to Wood for solutions to the Energy Transition’s most challenging problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utility scale photovoltaic (PV) solar electrical design, equipment selection, energy modeling, and optimization to yield high-performing, cost-competitive systems
  • Research and shortlist new PV equipment and energy storage technologies that will increase value to our clients
  • Use modeling software such as PVsyst to create highly accurate production estimates
  • Draw upon technical and industry experience to characterize losses due to equipment behavior and environmental effects
  • Use or create software tools to optimize solar and storage designs for energy yield and project value
  • Create site-specific solar building blocks and layouts for proposals and to drive detailed Engineering activities
  • Use internal tools and industry standards to optimize project designs for constraints such as scope, schedule, budget and geography
  • Perform calculations for losses, conductor sizing, equipment rating, fusing and protection consistent with NEC, ANSI, IEC and UL
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of project engineering, construction and performance issues, where applicable
  • Develop processes to streamline technical inputs to bid operations
  • Support project turnover and Performance Testing of new facilities
  • Performance Guarantee validation and ongoing support

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Renewables-related discipline required, Masters degree an asset 
  • 5-10 years of experience working in the clean energy consulting space
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience (solar energy analysis and due diligence) under project finance scopes of work  
  • Desired experience with: PVsyst, AutoCAD, SunDAT or other solar-specific drafting software, GIS, Civil3D
  • Ability to prepare high quality, concise documents to convey project progress, status and financial information to internal and external project stakeholders
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering standards, best practices and safety regulations
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Valid Canadian or USA driving license
  • Willingness for occasional worldwide travel
  • Must have authorization to work lawfully in Canada or the US without sponsorship from Wood
