Description

~ World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world's leading conservation organization, seeks a Senior Program Officer, Corporate Water Stewardship. ~

As part of the water stewardship group and broader freshwater team, this role supports bilateral corporate and multi-stakeholder engagement to advance high impact initiatives and drive water stewardship approaches in priority basins; advises corporate partners on how to strengthen water stewardship strategies using key tools, such as global risk assessment tools, AgWater Challenge Supply Chain criteria and the AWS Standard; and also fosters wider uptake of water stewardship in priority sectors and with key influencing platforms and works collaboratively through the WWF network, US office and external partners to drive toward conservation outcomes via water stewardship.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Manage Complex Water Stewardship Projects and Initiatives

  • Develop priority sector and company relationships, as well as proposals that demonstrate an ability to align WWF conservation priorities with company water stewardship needs.
  • Work directly with project personnel, corporate partners, grantees, donors, and consultants, and others to facilitate coordination, communication, and regular reporting.
  • Administers and monitors the budgets of assigned contracts and cooperative agreements, ensuring that data is accurate and timely.
  • Reviews the status of projects, identifies problems and formulates recommendations for corrective action as appropriate. Follows up on deliverables and other requirements.
  • Prepare and/or finalize scopes of work, budgets, and administrative information for contracts and ensure compliance with corporate partners and/or donor requirements.

2. Analyze, research and create solutions

  • Conduct research and analysis related to the private sector, corporate fora and associations, pertinent institutions, non-governmental organizations, and governments in support of corporate collective action and water stewardship change in priority business sectors.
  • Track international and corporate policies and decisions that may affect WWF-US' freshwater conservation goals.
  • In close collaboration with WWF Freshwater, Private Sector Engagement and Food staff, among others, maintain mastery of existing and emerging water and supply chain analyses for use with priority sectors and bi-lateral partnerships

3. Strategic Communications

  • Communicate the nature and results of water stewardship work to interested institutions, donors, partner organizations, and the general public.
  • Represent the Water Stewardship Team and WWF with internal and external audiences.
  • Develop program-specific communication materials and works closely with Freshwater Communications Director to push out to strategic audiences via appropriate channels.
  • Facilitate conservation links to key water stewardship issues including standards, WASH, SDGs, other human development issues, CSR and policy.

4. Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • A Master's degree or MBA is preferred, ideally with an emphasis in corporate environmental management, sustainability or environmental science and management; and
  • Position requires 3-5 years of experience in any or some combination of the following: water resources management (corporate preferred), agriculture, business sustainability, supply chain standards and reporting, as well as an understanding of international freshwater conservation issues.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have strong project management skills, and the ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of water stewardship tools and frameworks is preferred.
  • Experience in cross-sectoral collaboration, facilitation of partnerships or coalitions is a plus.
  • Experience in agriculture, sustainable agriculture, farm-level best management practices, or ag-water nexus issues is preferred.
  • Must have good interpersonal and networking skills, diplomacy and flexibility.
  • Must be able to travel internationally and within the US (approximately 25%).
  • Excellent research and writing skills are essential.
  • Strong analytic skills; quantitative skills required.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including experience working in international developing country contexts.
  • Additional language skills, such as Spanish or French, is a plus.
