Position Overview

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Chemist to join us in our Helm, CA facility.

The Senior Chemist will be responsible for conducting chemistry research that covers many fields of inquiry and assists in the development of agricultural products, such as but not limited to the development of soil amendments with specific chemical, physical and biological properties. Development and formulation of organic agricultural fertilizers and other products related to organic agriculture and related to improving soil health.

This is an amazing opportunity to be part of a team which focuses on the agronomic “tools” we provide to our customers. This is a laborious process that is accomplished through the fundamental scientific method of gathering data through experimentation of new formulations with new materials in laboratory, greenhouse and field trials.

Responsibilities

Specific Job Duties:

  • Performs assignments in accordance with established safety policies and procedures
  • Adheres to the Quality Policy, including all items assigned to this position in accordance with safety policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • Complies with the code of conduct and standards set forth in the Employee Handbook
  • Displays appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group setting which provides a positive influence on co-workers
  • Facilitates projects and/or plan written up by R&D and/or executive team
  • Assures that all work assigned to the position is performed in accordance with specifications, instructions and requirements
  • Maintains good housekeeping and clean working areas in assigned work sites
  • Works with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency
  • Wears required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ships samples to different labs for testing
  • Responsible for data collection, organization and communication of project
  • Able to work with natural ingredients to optimize formulations of liquid and dry fertilizers and other agricultural products
  • Responsible for outside laboratory testing selection, shipping and related admin
  • Writes SOP’s; document and record control
  • Operates and maintains existing lab equipment and evaluates/implements new lab equipment
  • Evaluating stock items/stock finished product
  • Preparing experimental scale formulations for use by R&D, sales staff, quality and compliance purposes
  • Acquisition, evaluation and storage of inputs and other related material like competitor products
  • Completes forms in accordance with company procedures
  • Sets up and maintains paper and electronic filing systems for records, correspondence, and other material
  • Conducts searches to find needed information, using such sources as the Internet
  • Learns to operate new office technologies as they are developed and implemented
  • Operates electronic mail systems and coordinates the flow of information both internally and with other organizations
  • Operates office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and phone systems, and uses computers for spreadsheet, word processing, database management, and other applications
  • Evaluation and execution of grant opportunities
  • Involvement or participation in industry related associations and events
  • Training to improve skills applicable to work functions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Lab to plant scale up capacity
  • Develop and maintain shelf life studies for products
  • Organization and/or system development of 3rd party and in-house results
  • Industry participation encouraged (meetings, boards, task force)
  • Determine how to utilize compounds to stabilize liquid suspensions of blended natural ingredients
  • Determine how to utilize compounds to improve physical properties of natural dry products
  • Determine how to utilize emulsifiers and surfactants to stabilize materials with different chemical properties

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of program
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally recognized standards and guidelines related to specialized environmental as required by position
  • Excellent Organizational Skills
  • Qualified candidates must possess a valid Divers License
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred but not required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven background with computers and software (including Windows and Microsoft Office)
  • Flexibility to work off-hours to meet company obligations to include by not limited to weekends
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
