With over 5,000 acres of protected wildlands in Marin, Sonoma, and Lake Counties, a mandate of "Conservation in Action", and top tier scientists and educators, we are uniquely positioned to lead Bay Area Conservation. ACR's preserves include the Cypress Grove Research Center on Tomales Bay, the 535-acre Bouverie Preserve in Sonoma's Valley of the Moon near Glen Ellen, the 1,000-acre Martin Griffin Preserve on Bolinas Lagoon near Stinson Beach, and the 3,300-acre Modini Mayacamas Preserve above Healdsburg.

Position Overview

Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR) seeks a Resource Ecologist for our Martin Griffin Preserve. S/he is a member of the ACR stewardship and science team and reports to the Martin Griffin Preserve Resident Biologist. Desired start date is January 15, 2019.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in natural resources inventory, monitoring, management, and restoration programs at MGP.
  • Recruit, train and supervise stewardship volunteers.
  • Report on regular field reconnaissance, including early detection and monitoring of stewardship issues.
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation of technical reports and publications.
  • Work collaboratively with ACR’s science and stewardship council.
  • Participate in community-based forums regarding land use issues and build on the potential for collaborations with neighboring land owners and land use agencies.
  • Construct and monitor budgets; may supervise and assist in hiring season staff or interns; and assist in fundraising efforts.

Qualifications

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree and professional experience or advanced training/degree in conservation biology, natural resource management, resource ecology, or related field. 
  • S/he can work independently and efficiently plan, implement, and manage complex natural resource management projects including preparing budgets and tracking expenses.
  • The candidate should display proficiency at managing invasive species, implementing ecological restoration using best management practices, and successfully engaging, coordinating, and motivating volunteers, partners, and the public.

Compensation

ACR offers competitive salary, medical and dental coverage, vacation and sick leave, and 403(b) contribution.
