Position Overview

Do you want to underwrite tailored solutions for the fastest growing form of electricity generation in the United States and Canada? We have an exciting opportunity for a Renewable Energy Underwriter. This position will report to the President of North American Division.

As a Renewable Energy Underwriter, you will be part of an entrepreneurial team of Underwriters and play a key role in results and strategy of the products offered by GCube Insurance Services.

The Underwriter is required to evaluate new and renewal policy applications and related documentation to classify and assess risks, communicate and build relationships with brokers and other outside contacts, and create and maintain all underwriting documentation according to procedures and other departmental guidelines.

Performance Objectives

Gain an understanding of the GCube’s renewable energy business structure: During the first 30 days, learn how the insurance products for renewable energy are sold by GCube, review submissions (with weight being given to the US and Canada books of business) and ask a lot of questions throughout the process.

  • Review and Quote risks: During the first 90 days be able to quote business in both the US and Canadian market working closely with the Underwriting peer group and the President.
  • Project Management: During the first 6 months, work closely with the President on various Special Projects. Demonstrate a strong desire to work within a high-functioning, results-oriented team by creating innovative solutions while meeting client demands and internal growth strategies.
  • Business Development: Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.
  • Communication/Documentation: Contact and respond to verbal and written inquiries from brokers within designated timeframe to provide appropriate information and serve as an underwriting resource. Create and maintain all documentation (physical and electronic) including new and renewal bound files, underwriting worksheets, documentation of phone conversations, and other key documents according to departmental guidelines.
  • Problem Solving: Show critical thinking skills by finding creative solutions to write kidnap and ransom business across multiple markets which satisfy both the broker and the client.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrate key strategic thinking skills by working directly with the Senior Underwriting Manager on special projects.
  • Marketing: Effectively market GCube’s tailored solutions to grow existing portfolio of business and client base.

Qualifications

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Management, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • 5+ years of underwriting experience; preferably within renewable energy, power generation, downstream energy or construction lines.
  • Experience with building and maintaining key broking relationships in the US and Canada.
  • Project management experience; preferably in growing books of business.
  • Experience in working in and with cross-functional teams.

Travel Requirements:

  • No travel requirements currently; once regular business travel resumes, requirement is 20-25%.
