SRI International's Physical Sciences Division offers government and commercial clients worldwide the diverse technical expertise needed to address important technical challenges in these and many other fields. Our work ranges from fundamental research and laboratory experiments to computer simulations, pilot-scale testing, systems development and commercialization of products.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a chemist or chemical engineer that will lead our program to develop high performance materials that have a low environmental footprint and are made from renewable resources. The Program Manager - Sustainable Materials will develop, grow, and manage their own research program with significant autonomy. The Program Manager will also provide technical leadership, plan and secure government or other research funding, and foster commercialization of results.
The successful candidate must have the ability to organize and write winning proposals, as well as manage projects and programs in a creative and interdisciplinary team environment. He/she will take personal ownership of the Sustainable Materials Program and grow and develop it along innovative lines. Successful candidates will have an established professional reputation, a track record of effective sponsor/client interactions, experience at planning and managing resources and tasks during project implementation, and proven leadership skills.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of progressively responsible government and/or commercial experience in relevant areas of research;
- must be a U.S. citizen with willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance;
- must have proven track record of initiating and writing winning proposals and securing funds, largely in the government arena;
- demonstrated ability to manage large projects;
- ability to effectively work with clients and understand their needs;
- must be a highly organized, self-starter with excellent analytical, oral and written communication, and presentation skills;
- must possess strong interpersonal skills in interacting with all levels of personnel - both technical and administrative;
- must be creative and innovative with the ability to think "out-of-the-box" in problem diagnosis and solution generation;
- ability to influence, negotiate, prioritize and multi-task;
- must demonstrate a high level of independence while working effectively within a team-oriented environment;
- additional personal attributes include integrity, a respect for others, high level of enthusiasm and energy, drive/initiatives, strong results orientation, and the ability to demonstrate flexibility;
- ability to travel ~20%.
