Description

~ California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN) is a statewide coalition that works on state and federal policy to advance the powerful climate solutions of sustainable and organic agriculture. ~

We seek a widespread transition in California agriculture towards increasingly resilient and environmentally sound farming systems that provide climate benefits, protect our natural resources, sustain our food security, provide for economically vibrant agricultural communities and maintain our finite agricultural lands. CalCAN advances and advocates for policies that provide incentives and other resources for California's farmers and ranchers to implement innovative on-farm conservation practices that mitigate and adapt to climate change while providing other environmental, health and social co-benefits.

CalCAN fills a unique niche of centering agriculture within climate change policy. Our work, in collaboration with coalition partners, has contributed to the adoption of multiple state climate-smart agriculture programs, farmland conservation policy, and on-farm renewable energy advancements.

CalCAN currently has three full-time staff, a lobbyist, internship positions, and a wide network of partners and advisors across the state. We are embarking on an effort to increase our impact by expanding our network of partners, and we are looking for someone passionate about our work and committed to playing a key support role in this exciting phase of growth.
