Description

Candide Group leverages capital to support the transition away from an extractive global economy to one that is built upon values of social justice and sustainability. We are an SEC Registered Investment Advisor based in Oakland, California, that supports families, foundations, athletes, and cultural influencers nationally who want their money working for social justice.

As impact investors, we seek to foster social benefit alongside financial return. We recognize that achieving our values will require an intense reorganization of society, and thus the pursuit of multiple strategies — in addition to our core line of work pursuing transformative impact through investing, we also leverage traditional advocacy through active participation in activism campaigns, work with other organizations about how they can better align their money and values, and maintain a thriving presence in media to affect change.

We prioritize intersectional and systemic change approaches, both amongst our portfolio and within our advocacy work. Candide Group supports private market impact investments across all sectors, geographies, and stages – including direct investments and funds; debt and equity — as long as we believe there is a strong impact intervention, a viable financial case, and a team with the skills to execute. Over half our portfolio is led by people of color and women — in general, we have a strong commitment to equity and inclusion both within our team and the teams we invest in.

About this Position:

The past few years have been a time of phenomenal growth and development for Candide Group. We launched the Olamina Fund, a $40M private debt fund creatively providing access to capital to women and communities of color, onboarded a number of new advisory clients, and added 15-20 new private funds and companies to our clients’ combined portfolios every year.

With a growing portfolio and client base, Candide is in the process of selecting and implementing a new Portfolio Management System (leading candidates include Addepar, Maestro, Relevant EquityWorks and FundCount). We are currently seeking a full-time Portfolio Operations Manager to manage and maintain this new Portfolio Management System, and to generally improve our ability to oversee and support our clients’ portfolios.

Responsibilities will fall in the following areas:

1.) Ongoing portfolio monitoring and oversight:

  • Ensure that all funds and companies in the Candide portfolio are complying with their reporting requirements and we are receiving everything from them in a timely manner
  • Monitor and flag key dates with specific action items (e.g. extensions/maturities, payments due etc.)
  • Update our Portfolio Management System on an on-going basis, particularly with quarterly fund valuations (Capital Account Balances, NAVs etc)
  • Capture and update terms for direct equity investments (eg pricing and rights for new share classes, cap table information etc.)
  • Work with custodians for account opening, transfers, valuation updates, wires and other activities

2.) Generate portfolio reports for clients and prospective clients:

  • Coordinate and manage the process of generating quarterly reports for Candide’s advisory clients
  • Generate portfolio performance reports for Candide’s marketing/sales materials (RFPs, prospective client presentations etc.)

3.) Support deal closing processes:

  • Pre-fill investor questionnaires and subscription forms
  • Project-manage the deal closing process to ensure both investors and investees are receiving all the documents they need to facilitate closing
  • Ensure investment information is captured and documented once closed

4.) Support Implementation of a new Portfolio Management System:

  • In the near term (next 3-6 months), support the data migration process into the our new Portfolio Management Software

The ideal candidate:

  • 5+ years experience in portfolio operations and analytics
  • Is familiar with Portfolio Management Software solutions such as those currently being considered by Candide (Addepar, Masttro, etc.)
  • Has experience supporting private market transactions (private equity/debt companies and directs)
  • Understands portfolio accounting terminology, processes, workflows, and data models
  • Is highly organized and able to manage multiple, parallel, time-sensitive deal closing processes
  • Has a high level of accountability, attention to detail, and responsiveness
  • Is passionate about supporting the success of founders and managers in Candide’s portfolios, has genuine curiosity about the businesses and love for the people behind the businesses
  • Is deeply committed to social change and to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (a true JEDI), while knowing it takes organization, strategy, and systems to achieve it.

Location:

  • Most of our team is based in Oakland, CA. Open to remote candidates.

Compensation:

  • $90,000-120,000.
  • Additionally we offer standard benefits such as health insurance and an employer-contributed 401k.
