Description

The Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI),a California 501c3, is seeking a full-time, experienced, capable and highly dedicated individual to work directly with the Executive Director and Board President to set up, organize and provide ongoing management of BFIs New York office.

Founded in 1983, The Buckminster Fuller Institute serves a global a network of Design Science innovators. BFI acts as a catalyst, facilitator and resource for learning and pioneering whole systems design.

Duties:
The position will involve a complete range of administrative support functions and development support activities including:

  • general office management including interface with the public and intern/volunteer oversight
  • communications and reporting,
  • research (primarily internet based)
  • financial, information and membership management support
  • fundraising, project management, and strategic networking support
  • travel, meeting, and conference call scheduling and coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Able to thrive in a highly creative entrepreneurial/start up environment
  • Seasoned, office management experience; non-profit experience a plus, but not required
  • Strong organization, system start up and maintenance skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Methodical and detailed team player with strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled at prioritizing tasks and working in an adaptable, flexible and independent manner.
  • Computer literate, i.e., emailMS Word (fast) excel spreadsheets, Internet research; basic graphic and web design skills a plus
  • Quick learner re: new software programs and office equipment
  • Bookkeeping and database experience
  • Some familiarity with Quickbooks or other accounting software also a plus but not required
  • Personal sense of alignment with BFI mission as well as keen interest in and basic knowledge of issues concerning social, environmental and economic trends
