Position Overview

We are seeking a New Markets Project Analyst to assist in the vetting and evaluation of utility-scale wind and solar projects located throughout the US. In this role, you will be directly responsible for the detailed fatal-flaw analysis and screening of wind and solar projects from start to finish. You will be joining a collective and entrepreneurial team and will be exposed to all aspects of the project development.

You will come in to this role with a passion for renewable energy, education in a related field, and (preferably) a year or two of energy development experience. You have a solid track record of exemplary teamwork and enjoy working on a dynamic and diverse team. You will have a strong understanding of project management and have no problem organizing, planning, and meeting deadlines. You seize the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and you thrive in an environment that requires flexibility and adaptation to constant change, shifting demands, and moving timelines. Finally, and most importantly, you are a creative and tenacious problem solver who realizes the importance of persistence and leaves no stone unturned.  

In this role, you'll work together with our internal teams (Development, Business Development, Construction. Transmission, Land, Resource, GIS, Finance, Environment, Public Affairs) at the different stages of diligence to ensure that the projects we chose to develop are the most compelling, most likely to succeed, competitive projects possible. You are smart, analytical, and a personable self-starter who can independently complete tasks on schedule. You have strong communication, presentation, and computer skills (especially in PowerPoint, Xcel and ArcGIS) and can form, write, and present a coherent argument using facts and fact-based opinions following detailed analysis. An understanding of the wind, solar and the energy markets is considered a major advantage. Likewise, prior experience in project development and/or project finance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead utility-scale renewable energy project evaluation and diligence
  • Work closely with manager and other team members to discover and vet new opportunities
  • Initial outreach to landowner involved in our projects to assess interest
  • Coordination and management of third-party diligence consultants
  • Completing diligence on wind and solar prospects from a resource, environmental, permitting, land, constructability, cost, community receptivity and transmission fatal flaw perspective
  • Lead and implement 4 stage, 52 step PowerPoint and Smartsheet based process
  • Research, conduct self-guided analysis, produce reports, and present information clearly to management.
  • Creation of initial project budget, schedule and proforma.
  • Detailed local, state and federal permitting schedules.
  • Development of initial community engagement and outreach strategies with our Public Affairs Team
  • Work cross-departmentally to maintain clear communication at all stages of the project evaluation
  • Responsible for smooth collaboration between the different internal departments
  • Travel to project site locations as needed

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in development related field with a strong academic record
  • 1-3 years of energy development experience; direct wind or solar development experience preferred
  • Experience in project management
  • Familiarity with project financial models
  • Confirmed ability to work collaboratively within and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to handle time to meet frequently changing deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Articulate with the ability to assist with management, client and public presentations
  • Strong computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Extensive experience with ArcGIS, PowerPoint and/or Smartsheet strongly preferred
  • Willingness to travel is preferred
  • Must be willing to work from our headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia

Compensation: Base and bonus commiserate with experience.
