~ Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) is a national nonprofit building healthy place for healthy people by advancing trails, bicycling and walking. ~ 

With more than 160,000 members and supporters, RTC is the nation's largest trails organization dedicated to connecting people and communities by creating a nationwide network of public trails, many from former rail lines and connecting corridors. ~

Founded in 1986, RTC’s national office is located in Washington, D.C., with regional offices in California, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. 

Position Overview

RTC is currently seeking a Major Gifts Officer.

Job Duties

  • Significantly increase philanthropic contributions from major donors including individuals, foundations and corporations;
  • Create and implement a multi-year strategy for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and current donors;
  • Team with program departments to prepare letters of inquiry, proposals, progress reports, and budgets; Implement recognition activities;
  • Donor and prospect research; and
    Plan and lead foundation, corporation and major donor cultivation and stewardship visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Must possess superior writing and editing skills, with a minimum of 3 years experience in working with major donors, developing cultivation strategies, as well as, soliciting and closing $10,000+ gifts;
  • Strong team player with the leadership skills to motivate others to be the same;
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of major donor development and foundations is essential; and
  • Knowledge of conservation, land use or transportation issues a plus.

Note: Travel required.
