~ BlueFlax Design, LLC, is a design/build firm located in Harwich, Massachusetts (on Cape Cod) specializing in a blend of landscape and ecological restoration design and implementation. We restore ecological function and integrity to the built environment, while thoughtfully creating habitat that supports the needs of both people and wildlife. ~

Position Overview

We are seeking a designer/design assistant to support the Design Director with projects ranging from traditional residential landscape design to the development of wetland mitigation/restoration plans and land management plans. The Landscape Designer /Restoration Designer position offers great potential for growth.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities of the position include collaborating with and under the direction of the Design Director to develop landscape designs including planting plans, grading plans, landscape lighting plans, hardscape designs (e.g. patios, walkways, pools, retaining walls etc), and drafting restoration and land management plans, writing land management narratives, and monitoring reports for presentation to Conservation Commissions and other permitting/regulatory boards and departments.
  • Fieldwork includes site visits for site analysis, measurements, checking spot grades etc. and collaboration with our field crew and environmental technicians to prepare for project implementation.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets to track monitoring reports etc.
  • Organizing plant orders from approved designs.
  • Creating graphic materials (perspective drawings, photo sketches, section/elevation drawings etc).
  • Preparing for and presenting projects at Conservation Commission Hearings.

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated candidates with a strong design background;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong writing/communication skills;
  • Landscape design, grading, and drafting skills;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Excel and Word; Adobe Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator and AutoCAD Software a must, Google Sketchup a plus); and
  • Plant knowledge (plant identification including some knowledge of invasive species plant I.D.) are encouraged to apply.

Note: Familiarity with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and municipal wetland regulations/bylaws is a plus.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience.
