Gevo addresses the market need of reducing greenhouse gas emissions with sustainable alternatives, and is commercializing the next generation of biofuels with diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel that have the potential to achieve zero carbon emissions,.

Gevo uses low-carbon renewable resource-based carbohydrates as raw materials and is developing renewable electricity and renewable natural gas for use in production processes, resulting in low-carbon fuels with substantially reduced carbon intensity. Our products perform as well or better than traditional fossil-based fuels in infrastructure and engines, but with substantially reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Position Purpose

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for assisting in implementing the Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) program of the plant to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the Company.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of GC/LC operation involving analyzing samples including knowledge of analyte matrix, interferences, detection limits, analyte trending and operational goals.
  • Maintenance of GC/LC, trouble shooting and calibration of methods involving the changing of columns, cartridges, septa, liners, and pump seals.
  • Conduct quality control tests on process streams and finished products.
  • Coordinate and communicate with operators test results to ensure optimum quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory tests and transfer data from analysis accurately.
  • Perform HPLC, GC, brix, refractometer, titrations, specific gravity, percent solids, COD, inorganic colorimetric tests and other tests as needed.
  • Inventory laboratory supplies and provide orders to purchasing agent.
  • Follow good laboratory practices and attend all safety training.
  • Conduct regular house-cleaning duties, keeping the laboratory area as neat and clean as possible.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Identify and communicate workplace hazards to the Lab Manager and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in biology, chemistry or related scientific field is desired.
  • Willingness to learn laboratory and process procedures; previous ethanol experience preferred.
  • Ability to walk, climb ladders and steps, lift up to 50 lbs, and work at heights.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with office type applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
