Position Overview

Innogy Renewables US is hiring a Financial Analyst to join our team in Chicago, IL.

The Financial Analyst will work closely with the project and business development teams and will be responsible for supporting the commercial / financial optimization of renewable projects from early stages through to final investment decision and beyond (greenfield and acquisition). You will collaborate with innogy’s renewable project development and commercial teams, support financial due diligence, assist in securing financing, and perform indicative valuations based on Group aligned financial models. You will also be a member of the Group’s International Finance Team, applying Group governance rules, and creating transparency for the parent, with the ultimate goal of providing solutions to secure growth in a competitive and fast-paced environment. 

Financial Analyst Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the evaluation of financial investment structures with flexible commercial terms that are in line with Group governance and optimize the overall project’s economics. 
  • Assist the finance team in supporting M&A, commercial, and development teams with the negotiation of key definitive agreements. 
  • Support financial analysis and market competition analysis as requested by the business functions. 
  • Collect assumptions and coordinate review of business cases for project approvals. 
  • Coordinate with development and engineering teams to compile and maintain auditable support for financial model assumptions. 
  • Provide timely financial due diligence and analyses to support M&A transactions. 
  • Assist in modeling financing scenarios for projects and portfolios based on established processes with the Group enabling functions. 
  • Prepare, or assist in the preparation of internal and external presentation materials as well as any approval papers. 
  • Apply a high level of ethical standards to uphold group governance directives, rules, and guidance. 

Financial Analyst Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, or related field. 
  • At least 2 years of related experience, with a strong preference for experience in preparing and maintaining financial models and investment presentations. Background in energy preferred. 
  • Related work experience in valuation, accounting, or banking. Exposure to project financing transactions a plus. 
  • Effective communicator with strong written and presentation skills. 
  • Team player with the flexibility to work both independently and in cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to apply creative thinking to solve complex, interrelated problems. 
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint skills required. 
  • Good intercultural skills required to build rapport and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in an international working environment. 
  • Flexibility to travel as required supporting the US business plan.
