Position Overview

AST is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer to provide scientific, engineering, and programmatic analysis support to the Department of Energy's Office of  Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE-EERE) and Bio-energy Technologies Office (BETO).

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Advanced Algal Systems sub-program within BETO.
  • Travel 25% to DOE-supported algae research sites within the US and conduct thorough assessments of project objectives, plans, and resources.
  • Perform professional technical and engineering assignments of an advanced degree of complexity under general direction and supervision of federal BETO staff on various projects within the programmatic guidelines set by the program manager and customer.
  • Work involves the application of engineering principles with regard to technical, economic, environmental, market, and analysis of issues related to bio-energy technology, transportation fuels, and bio-economy policy.
  • Conducts investigations and prepares remediation work plans and reports.
  • Ensures program conformance to federal, state, and local environmental legislation.
  • Plan monitor, and provide technical recommendations for directing direct projects or major phases of projects.
  • Provide technical consultation reviews project progress, and evaluates results.
  • Recommends corrections in technical applications and analyses.
  • Specifies materials, equipment and supplies required for completion of technical projects.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Biological/Chemical/Environmental Engineering or Science is required.
  • Must have 10+ years of experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience executing and/or supporting energy or algae-related research and development projects.
  • Hands-on experimentation and research experience at an algae-related company.
  • PhD in Biological/Chemical/Environmental Engineering or Science.
