Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) is the national leader in high school climate science education and next generation stewardship. ACE's mission is to increase the knowledge, capacity and influence of millions of American youth to achieve a sustainable, equitable and thriving future for people and communities.

ACE accomplishes this mission through dynamic, award-winning multimedia school assemblies that make the complex subject of climate science and solutions relevant, interesting, and fun. Following these assemblies, ACE Educators assist students in implementing solutions, from energy and waste reduction, to introducing renewable energy in schools. ACE offers a structured leadership pathway that provides access to information, tools to enable success, and practical experiences that build confidence and credibility, so that students can realize their potential to influence change.

ACE is data-centric and tech-savvy, nimble and creative, passionate and results-oriented, and believes firmly in the individual and collective potential of youth. Since 2009, ACE has reached over 1.3 million high school students. ACE has a current national staff of 35, an annual budget of $3.4 million, and is planning for significant growth over the next two years.

Position Overview:

AEC is currently seeking a self-starting, creative, conscientious Development Manager who will play a pivotal role in scaling ACE's national fundraising program of more than $3 million per year. This is an opportunity to bring fresh ideas for scale to an innovative, breakthrough organization. 

We seek a smart, tech-savvy professional to join a high-performing Development team. This well-organized individual will manage the Development team's systems for communication, reporting and fundraising and will have the opportunity to build experience while helping ACE to diversify and expand revenue.

The Development Manager will work closely with the Director of Development and Institutional Giving Manager. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, a skilled communicator, and comfortable managing database technology. Strong project management skills are essential to this position. A passion for climate protection, and the role of youth in climate solutions, is a plus.

This is a full-time exempt position, based at ACE's headquarters in Oakland, CA. 

Responsibilities:

Team and Task Management (30%):

The Development Manager will complement the existing team comprised of the Director of Development and Institutional Giving Manager, offering new ideas and solutions at every turn.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing ACE's gift and grant acknowledgment process, ensuring that communications are accurate and sent in a timely fashion, maintaining excellent development and audit records, and overseeing departmental workflow management tools to keep the team on task and on track.
  • She/he will be responsible for overseeing design and use of Development Team collateral, including funder materials/USBs, key documents, resources, and most current organizational impact stories.
  • May require responsibility to gather and prepare information required for Executive Director and/or Director of Development to prepare for funder meetings and site visits.

Communications/Special Projects (30%):

The Development Manager will be the first point of contact with first-time donors to ACE as well as schools and companies interested in learning more about investing in ACE's work.

  • S/he will be responsible for executing timely and best-in-class communications with new potential donors and partners.
  • Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development ManageAlaskan Observersr will coordinate production and execution of ACE's donor appeals and the quarterly Supporter Newsletter.
  • S/he will act as liaison with the Marketing Team and Program Managers on a regular basis to ensure that Development has the latest resources for proposals, reports, funder meetings etc.

Salesforce database management (20%):

  • S/he will be responsible for managing current and prospective donor records in ACE's Salesforce database, acting as the Development team's representative for the system throughout the organization.
  • This includes data uploads, database report building for Development team members, data quality checks, and customization as needed to advance the Development program, as well as Alaskan Observersthe ability to develop and implement training for ACE staff relating to Development team's organizational goals.

Research (20%):

  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective institutional and individual donor prospects and identify the value proposition for each.
  • Track the field for trends in environmental and educational grant making, including communications trends in social media.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency required or proven ability to learn: Salesforce.com, Exact Target, Drupel, Mac/MS Excel & Powerpoint or Keynote, Photoshop, and Google Apps.
  • 3-5+ years professional experience preferred. Special attention given to candidates with an interest in a career track in fundraising and development and demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment to achieve departmental goals.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaAlaskan Observersneously with thoroughness, accuracy, timeliness, professionalism and a positive spirit.
  • Education: BA/BS required. 


Compensation: 
$45,000-50,000 annually DOE
