Position Overview

Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) and Maine Conservation Alliance (MCA), two state-wide, nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations, are seeking a dynamic individual to join our staff as fulltime Development Manager.

Job Description:

  • The Development Manager works in a collaborative environment as part of a fundraising team that includes the Deputy Director, Executive Director, and Board Development Committee to support an established and growing development program.
  • We are looking to hire:
    • A highly motivated, self-driven, reliable and detail-oriented professional
      with experience in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors through a variety of channels,
      including by email and mail, phone, in-person visits, events, and social media.
    • We are looking for a creative thinker with strong communication and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and fluency in basic computer literacy (database management, etc.).
    • Very strong interpersonal and writing skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Online Supporter Program:

  • Develop and execute annual online supporter fundraising messaging and campaigns which include recruiting new supporters and retaining and upgrading current supporters;
  • Consistently measure performance of campaigns and explore trends and opportunities for new strategies;
  • Assist in keeping online donation pages current and active; and
  • Work with staff to ensure accurate and timely data entry, record keeping and tracking in database.

Special Events:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and expansion of the Evening for the Environment - our signature annual event - to reach fundraising goals. Event planning will include recruiting business and organizational sponsors and host committee members;
  • Lead the creation, planning, and execution of other event opportunities, including our Conservation Luncheon Series, house parties, and donor appreciation activities; and
  • Build event budgets and track costs.

Major Gifts Program:

  • Conduct thorough donor research;
  • Identify and qualify potential major donor prospects;
  • Work with our graphic designer to help create attractive brochure/solicitation materials with compelling impact statements;
  • Conduct giving analyses and develop end-of-year reports on what we accomplished;
  • Manage and visit with a small pool of annual giving donors; and
  • Keep detailed records of donor contacts.

Mail Program:

  • Develop timeline, utilize CRM to build mailing lists, design printed materials, and work with vendors to facilitate successful membership mailings.
  • Participate in department and organization-wide planning and activities;
  • Develop annual goals, metrics, and work plan;
  • Evaluate and track fundraising program results, and help develop strategies to improve fundraising performance;
  • Assist with building the budget for the department;
  • Participate in staff meetings and strategic planning; and
  • Participate in conferences and trainings with our national partner, the League of
    Conservation Voters.

Other:

  • Learn, understand and maintain familiarity with the EveryAction database and its full suite of development capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Motivation to build and strengthen our development program;
  • Commitment and dedication to MCV/MCA’s mission, goals, and strategies;
  • Interested in environmental protection, climate action and the political process;
  • 2+ years experience in non-profit or political fundraising using multiple strategies;
  • Demonstrated ability as a self-starter and problem-solver;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;
  • Good communications skills, including critical listening, engaging writing, and public
    speaking; and
  • Ability to travel periodically for meetings, events, and conferences.

Position Requirements:

  • This is a full-time position based in Augusta but working from home for now.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.
  • The Development Manager reports to the Deputy Director.

Compensation

  • The salary range for this position is $50,000-$65,000/year, along with holiday
    and paid time off, health/dental/vision insurance, and retirement benefits.
