In November 2018, following our 6-month 75-person electoral organizing fellowship, Sunrise Semester, we launched the campaign for a Green New Deal alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In 2019, Sunrise has continued fighting for a Green New Deal and elevating the urgency of climate change in the public and the media. Sunrise Movement Education Fund (501c3) and Sunrise (501c4) are organizations dedicated to supporting the mobilization and leadership of Sunrise Movement.

Position Overview

Sunrise Movement is hiring for a full-time Office Manager and Development Assistant. The Office Manager and Development Assistant will perform important tasks in our Washington, DC office such as depositing checks, sorting mail, and assisting with other administrative office work. The ideal candidate will be accountable, detail oriented, and excited to assist in and learn about the operations of Sunrise Movement.

The Office Manager will be expected to be on site 3-4 days a week. Hours spent between office management and development assistant are flexible/as-needed based on workload. Development duties will require close collaboration with the Fundraising Department to maintain detailed databases of donations made to Sunrise Movement and Sunrise Movement Education Fund, with particular focus on physical donations to the office. The assistant will also support the development team with key administrative duties.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deposit and Categorize Checks: Deposit checks 1-2 times per week, and work with the Fundraising Director to catalogue check data for use by the Fundraising Department.
  • Check, Sort and Scan Mail: Work with the Fellowship Operations Manager to sort and scan mail to the Operations Director and relevant staff.
  • General Office Management: Hold Sunrise employees accountable to office chores, keep stock of office supplies and needs, and make necessary runs and interventions to keep the office running smoothly.
  • Development assistance: Track funding deadlines, grant restrictions and requirements, and follow-ups to key program officers and donors in consultation with the Fundraising Director.
  • Support the Fundraising Director with writing and responding to emails, organizing travel for trips, and ensuring timely follow-up to key fundraising contacts.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Detail-oriented and highly accountable
  • Dependable, flexible schedule during work hours (9am-6pm M-F)
  • Desire to learn about and assist with the internal workings of Sunrise Movement
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication, and problem-solving
  • Can maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Self-starter who enjoys experimentation

Nice to have, but not necessary:

  • Experience in administrative work
  • Experience with data management and fundraising

Compensation

  • Salary is $36,000 to $55,000 annually.
  • Sunrise believes that all Americans are entitled to a $15 living wage; our standard salary offer is based on a $15 base wage, adjusted for cost of living in your home city.
