As a Northern Plains organizer, you’ll make change happen at the grassroots level by building power in local communities. You won’t be tied to a desk, you’ll meet lots of people, and you’ll get to know Montana’s back roads. This is very much a “people” job!
You will have the opportunity to explore Montana’s rivers, mountains, and plains while you work with our members to develop winning campaigns, strengthen communities, develop strong leaders, and ensure Montanans have an effective voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
Any given day may include planning and organizing effective meetings and events, helping members prepare for strategic interactions with public officials and the press, and growing our membership and grassroots power.
We are a team of hard-working, dedicated individuals who honor and promote a healthy work/life balance. Our casual office environment is full of natural light, outbursts of laughter, and is frequently visited by our furry, four-legged friends.

- Commitment to the democratic process, and to environmental stewardship and conservation.
- Ability to get along well with people from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of personalities.
- Willingness to travel, including some overnight stays, (staff car provided) up to 25% of the time.
- Ability to thrive in a job that includes a diverse set of activities and environments.
- Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lift equipment up to 20 lbs., stand or walk for long periods of time, drive long distances, and work in all weather conditions.
If you have prior experience working with nonprofit organizations, familiarity with agricultural or environmental issues, or experience working toward social change, you have already started building the skills we need. SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Our compensation philosophy and transparent salary structure flows from our belief that our people are the most important part of our organization. We offer thriving wages ample benefits, and opportunities for growth and development.
The salary for this position starts at $40,000 per year. We also offer employer-paid health insurance, 20 days paid vacation plus 13 paid holidays (including the week from Christmas through New Year’s), 12 days paid sick leave, and 8 weeks paid parental leave. In addition, we offer flexible schedules, a hybrid office/remote work structure, a retirement plan, employer paid cell phone service, and a sabbatical program.
NOTE: This is a permanent, salaried, and exempt position.
