The New York Invasive Species Research Institute (NYISRI) is dedicated to spanning the research implementation divide to improve the scientific basis of invasive species management decisions.

NYISRI works closely with the New York PRISM Network, iMapInvasives database, the NY Department of Environmental Conservation, and researchers from many universities and organizations to advance projects in support of this mission.

Position Overview

NYISRI is seeking a talented full-time Communications Coordinator to implement the Institute’s Communication plan. This position is based in Ithaca, NY, in the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University. Appointment will be until Dec 31st, 2021 with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding. Pay commensurate with experience. Strong candidates with a preference for remote work will be considered.

  • Desired Start Date: May 1st, 2021 End Date: December 31st, 2021, with potential of extension
  • Hours: Full time (39 hours/week)
  • Location: Ithaca, NY Position

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

  • Expanding and managing NYISRI's social media presence, producing a monthly newsletter, developing and updating website content, designing outreach materials independently and with working groups, and participating in and supporting project meetings and events.
  • This position may also require occasional technical assistance, lab or fieldwork in support of associated projects in the Blossey Lab.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly about scientific topics for a general audience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of invasive species issues, management, and/or research
  • Experience with WordPress-hosted websites, Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite software
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred:

  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Conservation, Science Communication, or related fields.
