Position Overview:

The Clean Energy Market Development Manager will be responsible for driving and implementing market opportunities for BASF in solar energy. Additionally, the new hire will assist the Clean Energy Market Manager in creating BASF's first market-facing unit for the clean energy; the team's initial targets will be wind and solar energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and developing new market opportunities in solar energy for BASF's products and technologies
  • Establishing a network across BASF's business units in order to understand and assist in the marketing of existing products and technologies, as well as to secure resources to develop new products and technologies as needed to meet prioritized indentified market needs
  • Identifying and coordinating relationships with target customers, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders throughout the solar energy value chain
  • Accumulating industry knowledge, insights, and contacts
  • Developing BASF's reputation as a supplier and innovation partner in solar energy
  • Qualifying existing BASF products for use in the solar energy industry and initiating development of new products or technologies as needed to meet prioritized identified market needs
  • Tracking and monitoring the market with respect to competition, potential customers, market dynamics, and technology developments and providing feedback to key BASF stakeholders, including the Clean Energy Market Manager
  • Prospecting for leads in the value chain and validating and creating opportunities and sales
  • Ensure coordination of product launches, forecasting, tradeshow exhibition, and customer meetings across BASF business units

Principle Attributes:

Business Performance Management:

  • Monitor and drive growth in new market opportunities in wind energy
  • Interpret and communicate business trends and analyses
  • Recommend and prioritize market opportunities
  • Prepare marketing and sales projections relating to strategic and operational planning

Communication Management:

  • Participate in industry events, symposia, and forums to build brand awareness
  • Build and develop internal and external networks and a plan for regular communication updates to key BASF stakeholders, including business unit leaders and the Clean Energy Steering Committee
  • Communicate to all key stakeholders in the wind energy value chain, form alliances with industry partners/customers and work with regulatory organizations
  • Prioritize visits to prospects to position products, promote sales, and gather market intelligence
  • Utilize market research to identify, prioritize and win new customers, as well as market new products to customers
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact successfully at all levels of management as well as a diverse work force

  • Deep understanding and experience with strategic marketing with the ability to practically apply
  • A proven track record of leading projects and teams that successfully achieve milestones and complete deliverables
  • A creative yet pragmatic problem solver; Methodical and hands-on as well as detail-oriented

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required. This can be an engineering, science, or business degree with a concentration in marketing or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of commercial experience in the clean energy industry, preferably with a focus on wind energy
  • Successful relationships and current strategic contacts with key stakeholders throughout the wind energy value chain
  • Highly motivated, self-starter; excellent organizational and people skills; flexibility to travel, as needed, up to 50% of the time
  • Strong skills in management of action plans, financial decision making and coordination of multiple activities
  • Strong financial and analytical skills to support business and new product development projects

Desired:

  • MBA with a concentration in marketing along with a degree in engineering or science is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in or leading a start-up company or market unit with a focus on wind energy
  • Experience in clean energies beyond wind is a plus
