Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director, Sustainability, the Assistant Director, Sustainability role will be an integral part of a best-in-class, comprehensive sustainability program and team that oversees the strategy, content, management, and direction of various measures, projects and initiatives in support of NYU sustainability goals.
- Areas of focus include but are not limited to carbon, energy, water, construction and renovation, waste, and transportation;
- This position will play an instrumental part in the development and implementation of a comprehensive road map to reach NYU’s carbon goals, and have a key role in tracking NYU’s carbon inventory and progress;
- This position will lead stakeholder efforts and communication between NYU units, departments, and schools: and
- Will support communications and outreach strategies related to the work.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
- Degree in related field (environmental science or environmental studies, engineering, sustainability, etc.).
- Master's Degree
Required Experience:
- 7+ years of related experience with project management and running programs.
- Must include related experience in strategic planning that informs organizational sustainability missions and goals.
Preferred Experience:
- Change management.
- Project or construction management.
- Data collection, analysis, and modeling.
- Financial analysis and modeling.
- Working group, task force, committee, or stakeholder group management.
- Group leadership.
- Green building design, construction, rating, or research. Involvement in a sustainability or environmentally related field.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills.
- Outstanding devotion to detail. Demonstrated history of creative problem solving and initiative.
- Strong interpersonal skills including collaborative leadership.
- Change management including persuasion and building of consensus in diverse groups.
- Strong analytical ability.
- Ability to work both independently or collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Exceptionally strong organizational skills and the ability to conceive and execute large projects from inception to completion.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership in forming and facilitating workstreams, committees, working groups, and stakeholder meetings.
- Ability to write clear and cogent reports and plans.
- Database analysis and modeling in SQL, R, or another language.
- Knowledge of energy and carbon accounting methodology and best practices.
- Technical knowledge of building design, construction, analysis, and building science.
