Position Overview

Under the direction of the Land Conservation Director, the Conservation Project Manager supports the Land Conservation department in ecosystem restoration throughout The Arboretum by implementing natural resource management, applied ecological research and educational programming on conservation topics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a variety of management practices including equipment operation, strategically timed mowing, herbicide application for invasive plant control, native plant establishment and reforestation, prescribed burning and water resource management.
  • Conduct daily operations of the native plant greenhouse, including seed propagation for habitat restoration and plant sales.
  • Support ecological research projects, including implementation, data collection, analysis and presentation of findings.
  • Participate in project planning, record keeping and documentation.
  • Contribute to technical reports on research outcomes, write interpretive summaries for the public and respond to inquiries on land conservation.
  • Plan and lead conservation focused educational events to connect The Arboretum’s work with the local community.
  • Support partnerships through public speaking and conducting community outreach.
  • Organize and lead volunteer field days, intern projects and professional resident trainings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year College or University and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one (1) year of demonstrated experience in natural resource management, ecosystem restoration, conservation or related field.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
  • Must possess an Ohio Pesticide Certification or be able to obtain it within the first six months of employment.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, lift and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work outdoors throughout the year in all types of weather.
