~ Established in 1978, Bur Oak Land Trust is a non-profit land trust which accepts donations of land from property owners who want their natural areas to be in the public trust, available for present and future generations. ~

The Trust’s conservation options include arranging and holding conservation easements, facilitating the transfers of land from private to public ownership, and advising land owners on donation, sale, and conservation of their land.

Our mission: To protect and conserve natural areas to enrich and engage current and future generations.

Position Overview

Bur Oak Land Trust is seeking an innovative and dynamic Executive Director to build on the successes of the past and fulfill its strategic vision for the future. The Executive Director will lead the organization to connect people to nature, expand public support, enrich communities, and further the mission of land conservation in Eastern Iowa with a focus in Johnson and surrounding counties.

This individual will demonstrate an authentic passion for the Bur Oak Land Trust’s mission and an unquestioning belief in the importance of conservation as vital to the diverse population of Eastern Iowa and to the broader ecological health of the region.

The Executive Director reports to a 15 member Board of Directors and supervises four direct reports, as well as, oversees AmeriCorps program and team members, plus office volunteers.

This individual is responsible for all aspects of Bur Oak Land Trust’s organizational health including financial oversight, operations, acquisitions, stewardship, fundraising, and community engagement programs, as well as building collaborative relationships with local, regional, and national partners. S/he will lead the Board and the staff in implementing the new strategic plan.

Bur Oak Land Trust had revenue and expenses of about $620,000 in fiscal year 2018-19. The Executive Director also has administrative oversight for an AmeriCorps grant ($145,000) and supervises the members hired through the grant.

Compensation

  • Salary and benefits will be commensurate to education and experience.
  • The salary starts at $50,000 plus a contribution to benefits.
