Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Staff Environmental Engineer or Scientist to work in our office and conduct fieldwork in the greater Gainesville area. Candidates must have the desire and ability to work across a broad range of environmental disciplines to include data collection and data reduction, environmental compliance and permitting issues, and database maintenance. Interest and familiarity with hazardous waste/hazardous materials management, stormwater, surface water, potable water, air compliance and permitting issues and federal, state, and local regulations governing these areas is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting fieldwork (up to one week at a time) to gather equipment/source information for input into spreadsheets and databases.
  • Preparing field reports, internal correspondence and sections of formal reports with supervision and review of project managers.
  • Performing engineering and scientific calculations, preliminary analysis, and permitting work.
  • Following company safety standards and site safety standards.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering Discipline (Civil, Environmental) or Physical Science.
  • EIT preferred if engineer.
  • Basic knowledge of rudimentary field procedures and techniques.
  • Experience in writing technical studies and reports, collecting field data, and writing internal correspondence preferred.
  • 1 – 2 years working in environmental compliance and permitting or related environmental experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal law and regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act, and equivalent California laws/regulations covering Hazardous Waste/Materials and Storm Water compliance.
  • Willingness to travel (primarily in southern U.S.) occasionally for up to one week per event.
  • Experienced in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Access, Excel), including spreadsheet input and manipulation.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or similar software is a plus.
  • Must be an organized, motivated and detail-oriented team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must pass drug test, MVR check and federal government background check.
  • Must be able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Must possess valid Florida driver’s license and meet KMEA’s auto insurability requirements.
  • Safety focus required, first aid/CPR a plus.
