Civil Engineer, Wind Energy

Position Overview

The position is for an experienced Civil Engineer with demonstrable track record in successful delivery of Owners Engineering and Design consultancy along with supporting due diligence/independent engineering assignments. The ideal candidate will be flexible and about to support projects in both power generation and power delivery. Specialized knowledge for the position is listed below.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor graduate and midlevel engineers and designers (supporting the transition of an existing design team to the North American renewables market segment;
• Provide technical guidance for production of designs and details for renewable development projects;
• Oversee typical design activities, including site layout, grading, erosion control and stormwater design;
• Perform engineering calculations & cost estimates;
• Provide engineering reports;
• Conduct research for zoning and engineering design requirements;
• Oversee/review permit applications, plans and other documents required by permitting agencies;
• Reviewing civil plans, specifications, calculations and studies for plants and substations;
• Coordinating with other design team disciplines, including structural and electrical engineers, surveyors, developers, utilities and contractors;
• Occasionally assisting with physical inspections of operating, under construction, and under development facilities;
• Coordinating with utilities, authorities having jurisdiction and code enforcement officers;
• Responding to requests for information, assisting with general construction support services, and writing/reviewing technical reports;
• Maintaining awareness and knowledge of codes, standards, and industry best practices;
• Collaborating with international teams to deliver independent review of generating plants for developers, power producers, and financiers.

Qualifications

We invite applications from candidates with:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited college;
• 5+ years Civil Engineering experience, renewables preferred;
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Software (particularly Word and Excel);
• Autocad/Civil 3D Software experience;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Willing to travel (potential local, out-of-state and international travel);
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to adhere to product quality while balancing time spent;
• Works well both in team environment and working individually on projects;
• Must be eligible to work in the United States;
• The role will be based in Mott MacDonald’s Plymouth, Michigan office.
